The Estanque Grande del Retiro is one of the most emblematic places in the Retiro Park in Madrid. This artificial pond was built between 1634 and 1636 by the architect Cristóbal de Aguilera. Originally, it was part of the garden of the Buen Retiro Palace and has been the scene of water shows and royal boat rides.
