The Röhrensee is a pond measuring approximately 1.5 hectares south of Bayreuth's city center. It is located in the middle of the park of the same name, which features animal enclosures and a large playground. In March 2018, the zoo was recognized as a project of the UN Decade on Biodiversity.
The Aubach River flows through the Röhrensee from south to north and was created in 1891 by the union of the Cunoweiher and the Röhrenweiher, which adjoined it to the north. With a length of 450 meters and a maximum width of 60 meters, it is the largest contiguous body of water in the city of Bayreuth. Where a dam once separated the Cunoweiher from the Röhrenweiher, which was then slightly lower, there is now an artificial island, accessible from both banks via two delicate arched bridges since 1903.
The former Röhrenweiher is documented as the Lower Kunnenweiher or Kunnaweiher, dating back to 1686. The name of the southern Upper Kunnen or Kunnaweiher pond changed over time to Cunoweiher. Both ponds were named after a former owner named Kun or Kuhn.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B6hrensee_(Bayreuth)

There is a lot to discover around the Röhrensee (and a little way behind it in the adjacent zoo)!
