🟦4. Kurplatz
In the 16th/17th century, all important buildings were grouped around the market square. After the last city fire in 1742, Christoph David
v. Leger designed a new city concept on behalf of Duke Carl Eugen with a square in a clear rectangular shape. The Royal Palace was converted into the Royal Spa Hotel in 1840-43 with a double arcade. In 1847, a music pavilion was built (demolished in 1958).
When the Spa Hotel was rebuilt in 1960, the facade was preserved and the old market fountain was re-erected. At the Eberhardsbrunnen part of the Palais Thermal there is a terracotta relief, donated in 1859 by the Berlin sculptor Hermann Heidel in gratitude for his successful treatment. It shows the escape of Count Eberhard the Greiner of Württemberg in 1367.
A memorial stone commemorates the construction of the bathing building (1841).
