Located at the north-eastern end of the Comacchio Valleys, the Salina covers an area of approximately 550 hectares. Recognized together with the Comacchio Valleys as a Wetland of International Importance, a Site of Community Importance21 SIC and a Special Protection Area SPA, since 2015 UNESCO has identified the Salina di Comacchio and the entire Po Delta Park as a Biosphere Reserve within the Man and Biosphere MAB program. The Salina can only be visited with the accompaniment of expert guides.
