    Hiking

With its massive golden domes and huge prayer hall, the Sultan Mosque is a must if you are in the historic district of Kampong Glam.
Masjid Sultan, as she is also known, is a well-known mosque in Singapore and one of the country's most impressive religious buildings.

The first mosque at this location was already built here in 1820. The promise to build the mosque had been given by Sir Raffles to Hussein Mohamed Sha, the Sultan of Singapore.

The present mosque was built in 1928 by the same architect who also built the Victoria Memorial Hall.

Entering the house of prayer is only possible in "decent" clothing, shorts or similar are not accepted. Also photographing or filming is not permitted and as a non-Muslim only entering the vestibule without shoes is allowed.

The mosque was partially completed by two-third and was formally opened in 27 December 1929.[2] The mosque was fully completed in 1932.[3]

The Sultan Mosque has stayed essentially unchanged since it was built, with only repairs carried out to the main hall in 1968 and an annex added in 1993. It was gazetted as a national monument on 8 March 1975.
