    Watchtower/Signal Tower - Nierstein 🚴‍♂️

The Nierstein Watchtower, also known as the Niersteiner Warte (Lookout Tower), is a medieval signal tower dating back to the 12th century. Incidentally, the stones of the demolished Königsstuhl (King's Chair) between Nierstein and Lörzweiler were used for its construction. For a long time, the tower, located north of Nierstein's famous "Red Hang," served the winegrowers as an observation and operations center for their annual starling control campaign. Today, however, it is the landmark of Nierstein and the highest vantage point in Nierstein. This makes the Nierstein Watchtower a wonderful place to enjoy the view of the Rhine. The tower, which is 10.20 meters high including the parapet, can be climbed. Several benches and tables are grouped around the tower, making it a popular picnic spot. Every year on May 1st, it's one of the starting points for the Nierstein Three Towers Hike. 🚴‍♂️

Great point to drive down from the Rheinhessen hill country to Nierstein. The route is TOP for racing bikes and the view from the tower is gigantic.
