Historic Hotel Albrici, Poschiavo

The historic hotel on the picturesque square of Poschiavo

Built in 1682, hotel since 1848

1682 - Bernardo Massella, Podestà of Poschiavo, builds his house on the square

1742 - Birth of Thomas Maria de Bassus, called Baron de Bassus

1766 - Baron de Bassus married Cecila Domenica Massella (daughter of Bernardo Massella) and inherited the house on the square. The palace becomes the meeting place of the Order of the Illuminati. Music and politics are often discussed in the house

1780 - A printing press was installed in the building

1782 - The first Italian translation of Goethe's "Werther" was printed in the castle. Goethe also belongs to the group of Illuminati

1787-1788 - The composer Johann Simon Mayr lives in the castle, as a guest of Baron de Bassus

1794 - After the death of his wife, Baron de Bassus moved to Germany, where his children also lived

1815 - Baron de Bassus dies in Ingolstadt (Germany)

1828 - The children of Baron de Bassus sell the palace to the Albrici family

1848 - The building is converted into a hotel. Much of the palace is still intact

Since 1848 - First hotel in Poschiavo

September 1896 - The Italian writer and poet Giosuè Carducci is a guest at the hotel
