The Puerta de Alcalá is a neoclassical triumphal arch on the Plaza de la Independencia, built between 1774 and 1778 by order of King Charles III by the architect Francisco Sabatini. It replaced a smaller 16th-century gate and originally served as the representative eastern city gate for the trade route to Alcalá de Henares. Today, the structure, located directly at the main entrance to Retiro Park, with its two differently designed facades, is considered one of Madrid's most famous landmarks.

The Puerta de Alcalá is one of the most iconic monuments in Madrid. Built in the 18th century by order of King Charles III, this monumental neoclassical gate was designed by Italian architect Francesco Sabatini. It is located in the Plaza de la Independencia, near the Retiro Park and the Cibeles Fountain.
