In Limburg, a special place can be found. In the small village of Meers lies Woodhenge, a tree monument consisting of fifteen fossil forest giants (2000 years old) that have been placed upright. The ancient trees were found during gravel extraction in the Meuse valley. and were under water for a long time, causing them to carbonize and slowly deteriorate. The trees are positioned in relation to each other and to the sun in such a way that they mark special days such as June 21 and December 21. The four cardinal directions and the location of the surrounding villages can also be read. All the trees are in a winding line, which follows the course of the Meuse in the year 2000. Cows and (wild) horses roam freely in the area. which means that sometimes you cannot get to the old tree trunks because they are standing or walking there. This also makes this place special.
