This opulent residence is located at the top of the village and dates back to the early 18th century. Its location in the immediate vicinity of the church and the old town hall reflects the social aspirations of the owner and his desire to be as close as possible to the strong symbols of power. The architecture of the building reflects the wealth of the house owners and their economic success. The façade is built in the "Louis XII" style.

From the 17th century onwards, wooden constructions gradually made way for brick houses. This is where the Maasland Renaissance, a local interpretation of the Louis XIII style, made its entrance. The Pirenne house is a fine example of the late Maasland Renaissance style. The rational structure of the façade is enlivened and embellished by various loose figures in the stone and brick facings: lower walls and corner stones alternately protruding and recessed, protruding horizontal bands and square stones in the middle of brick walls. The house has the first cornice with mouldings in Belgium. Note the roof with windows and the round window that dominates the entrance door.
