The Federal House in Bonn is a building complex in which the plenary sessions of the German Bundestag and the Bundesrat took place from 1949 to 1999/2000. The core building, built between 1930 and 1933, served as the Bonn Pedagogical Academy for teacher training until the Second World War. After the decision on the capital question in 1949 in favor of Bonn, it was converted into temporary accommodation for the Bundestag and Bundesrat and formed the core of the developing parliamentary and government district. The original plenary hall of the Bundestag was demolished in 1987 and a new building was built in its place by 1992.In the 50 years it served as the seat of the two constitutional bodies, the Federal House was expanded and rebuilt several times until the institutions were relocated to Berlin in 1999 due to the capital decision. The plenary hall was then taken over by the International Congress Center Bundeshaus Bonn, today's World Conference Center Bonn, where national and international conferences take place. Since 2013, the southern parts of the building have been the headquarters of the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat and part of the “UN Campus”, which includes not only the Federal Palace but also the neighbouring former House of Representatives, Langer Eugen.
