Pingen are funnel pits in which iron ore was mined using a very shallow mining method (no tunnels!). The chronological classification is difficult, but they were probably created and exploited until the late Middle Ages. In the field you can see them as funnels in the ground, often arranged like fields. In contrast to the sinkholes that are also common here, pings usually have a raised edge due to the ejecta.
