Bicheno Blowhole is carved straight into the orange-lichen-covered granite, where waves force their way through a sea cave and burst up through the rock. It’s much more dramatic with a decent swell or around high tide, when the spray can shoot several metres into the air. Don’t get too comfortable near the edge though. Even on calmer days, an unexpected surge can leave you absolutely soaked.

The Bicheno Blowhole is similar to other blowholes in that the "Bowhole effect" is created by the tide coming in and out. Every time a wave comes in, it rushes through a channel and then shoots out the blowhole into the air.

This area is where you will begin seeing the orange hue of the Bay of Fires, which is caused by a type of lichen.
