    Grand'garde:
The Belgian army built the building at the end of the 19th century to house the soldiers guarding the area. These guards were responsible for the Porte de Terra Nova opposite. Since the middle of the 20th century, the building has been the property of the city.

    Porte de Terra Nova:
The fort and its gate were built by Dutch engineers in 1631 and 1675, but were demolished by Emperor Joseph II at the beginning of the 19th century and rebuilt by the United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1820 to 1825. Quarters were then built there for 1200 men. The barracks buildings, which were covered with earth and thus protected from bombardment, were given an additional floor in 1839.
