Dachau station was opened on November 14, 1867, together with the Munich-Ingolstadt railway line.
The tracks were extended in 1884 and the station building was expanded in 1887.
On July 8, 1912, the Dachau local railway from Dachau to Markt Indersdorf was opened. This local railway was extended to Altomünster on December 18, 1913. At the same time, Dachau station was renamed Dachau station, as the new Dachau Stadt stop was created on the Dachau local railway.
