The tower is located on Las Cañas beach, near the mouth of the Las Cañas stream, after which it takes its name. It is part of the coastal fortification line of the Andalusian Mediterranean coast and stands right on the beach line.

The tower is made of masonry and bricks and has the shape of a hoof or horseshoe, that is, an extended semicircle with two oblique spurs or horns on the back. It has a height of 11 meters and a circumference of more than 53 meters. It was built in the second half of the 18th century, during the time of Charles III.
