A beacon has stood here since the 17th century as part of a signal system to warn of a French invasion. This was the first fire to be lit should the French fleet be seen by a soldier and his wife, stationed up here to keep careful watch on the horizon.

In the 1930s one of the first radar stations was built here which played an important role in detecting enemy aircraft.

This beacon in five metres high and was built in 2008. From here you can enjoy 360 degree views across the North York Moors.
