Danby Park is a small area of woodland that was once a part of the much more extensive medieval deer park. It belonged to the powerful De Brus family, who six generations after arriving here had also settled in Scotland. The folk hero and 14th-century king of Scotland, Robert the Bruce, was a direct descendent of the family.
