The Lütt-Wittmoor east of Rhen is a nature reserve. In the north, the nature reserve borders on the "Oberalsterniederung" and forms a biotope network with it. The Lütt-Wittmoor is a former high moor, which is only partially available. Partly it is wetted again. The surrounding forests are natural deciduous forests. Near the moor are many birches.
The nature reserve is the habitat of a species-rich and partially threatened flora and fauna. The still waters and their surroundings are habitat for amphibians, including moor frog and garlic toad, reptiles such as grass snake, common otter and lizard, and dragonflies. The meadows and the grassland are of great importance for various meadow birds such as lapwing, double snipe, corncrake and curlew, but also other bird species, including crane, barn owl, quail, whinchat and red-backed shrike.
