Surrounded by Lake Schwerin and in front of Schwerin city center, Schwerin Castle fascinates with its unique combination of architecture and landscape.

The former residential palace in Schwerin is one of the most important historicist buildings in Germany.

Including Renaissance buildings from the 16th and early 17th centuries with terracotta jewelery or decorative gables, the current castle view was created between 1843 and 1857.

The castle was remodeled in the style of the neo-renaissance according to the plans of the master builders Georg Adolph Demmler and Friedrich August Stüler. The French Renaissance castles, particularly the Chambord castle on the Loire, had a strong influence on the design.

Particularly worth seeing in the museum of the castle are the generous representation rooms on the festival floor, such as Throne room and ancestral gallery, as well as living and social rooms such as dining, tea, flower rooms and New Years gallery on the upper floor.

In the former children's rooms, precious porcelain from Meißen, Berlin and other European manufacturers as well as courtly and Mecklenburg painting from the 18th and 20th centuries can be seen. The castle garden and the orangery are also worth a visit.
In addition to its function as a cultural meeting place, the castle is also the seat of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
