A hike along the Chemin pèlerin Monasteriorum is not only scenic, but also a journey into the past. You are following in the footsteps of the monks who came to the region at the end of the 19th century.
The Chemin pèlerin Monasteriorum is an impressive pilgrimage route in the north of Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, which runs for about 30 kilometers between Dolbeau-Mistassini and Saint-Eugène-d’Argentenay. This path runs along the picturesque Rivière aux Rats and offers a unique mix of nature, history and spiritual experience.
The route allows you to trace the history of the Trappist monks who have been based in the region since 1892 and who contributed significantly to its cultural and agricultural development. The historical sites are particularly impressive, including the three former monastery sites and the famous Chocolaterie des Pères Trappistes, which still welcomes visitors today .
The route is not only known for its historical and religious aspects, but also for its scenic beauty. Pilgrims and hikers enjoy the view of the surrounding forests and the typical blueberry fields that give the northern lake area its special touch. The starting point of the hike is usually the Maison du Parc régional in Dolbeau-Mistassini, where you can also get information and pilgrim passes to record your experiences and thoughts from the hike.
