Pilgrimage Church of Mary at the Holy Stone
The German Chapel stands at an altitude of 2159 m on the Dobratsch in the municipality of Bad Bleiberg and is dedicated to Mary at the Holy Stone. It is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of Bad Bleiberg. The name "German Chapel" is used to distinguish it from the Windische Chapel, the second mountain church on the Dobratsch.

According to legend, the construction of the church was preceded by an apparition of the Virgin Mary. Mary is said to have appeared to a Bleiberg tradesman or a shepherd in distress sitting on a stone. The builders of the first chapel, consecrated on August 15, 1693, were therefore either Bleiberg tradesmen or miners from Bleiberg-Kreuth and the farmers from the upper villages of Villach. In 1731, the original wooden chapel was replaced by a brick one, which was not consecrated until 1853.

The simple, small building consists of a nave with a flat ceiling and a barrel-vaulted choir with a 5/8 end. In the northern corner of the choir there is a small tower with a shingle-covered pyramid roof.

The altar marked "1690" and "1855" was restored in 1992.

Beautifully situated on the mountain and not at all kitschy ... fits very nicely in this place
