The German chapel stands at 2159 m altitude on the Dobratsch in the community of Bad Bleiberg and Maria is dedicated to the sacred stone. It is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish Bad Bleiberg. The name "German Chapel" is used to distinguish it from the Windische Kapelle, the second mountain church on the Dobratsch.

Directly next to the Dobratsch summit, at 2167 m above sea level

stands the "German Church". The church, built in 1692, is the highest

under the old mountain churches of the Eastern Alps. She was consecrated "Maria am Stein"

and is located above the Dobratsch summit house, just before the demolition in the

        Evil trenches.

The legend tells of the "German Church" that it was there in the 14th century

Shepherds a white woman surrounded by radiant light sitting on a stone

have seen. The church was built in 1692 by Bleiberger Knappen together with

the peasants from Heiligengeist at the place of the apparition of "Maria am Stein"

built and inaugurated on August 15, 1693.

About 300 m further west, a little below the highest point, lies the Windische

Church ". It is also one of the two Marian shrines on the summit of the

Dobratsch and is dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary ". This church was

1690 by the lord of the castle von Wasserleonburg, the baron von Semler and

his wife, erected in fulfillment of a vow and so it comes that in so

at a considerable height on the Dobratsch two churches stand so close to each other. (... from information board
