Örtze brought people to fantastic stories. Probably to keep their children from playing in the Örtze, parents invented the Otterbock. No one has ever seen him, but anyone who got too close to the water was said to be grabbed by him and dragged under the water. Thanks to this horror story, many a child is said to have been prevented from jumping into the Örtze before they had learned to swim.
