At the time of the great urbanization at the transition from the 19th century to the 20th century, the journalist and writer Hermann Löns wrote innumerable nature poems and several novels. His favorite landscape was the heathland and his endeavors made the Lüneburg Heath one of the first nature reserves in Germany.

A memorial was erected here to the local poet Löns. How too often is he glorified without considering his nationalist and anti-Seminitic statements.
