The cycle route leads directly past the pavilion with the reconstructed Roman mosaic. The Oceanus mosaic is one of the most important Roman period mosaics in Germany. So be sure to stop for a moment and take a look.

The reconstruction of a Roman mosaic can be admired in a glass pavilion in the spa gardens of Bad Vilbel. The showpiece of ancient mosaic art is the only one that was found in Hessian soil. It is one of the most beautiful in all of Germany. Shown are sea creatures, grotesque hybrids and real animals that crowd around the sea god Oceanus.

The 33 square meter mosaic was found in 1849 at today's Südbahnhof in Bad Vilbel. It probably belonged to a bathing facility on a country estate. The mosaic exhibited here is a replica. The original is in the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt.
