Half-timbered building from 1712, fundamentally renovated until 1996.

Like many other houses and parts of the city church of St. Maria, the recently completed Boizenburg town hall was the victim of a major city fire in 1709, in which more than 150 houses were destroyed by the flames. The engineer Jakob Reutz then redesigned the city center. In order to better meet fire protection requirements, the center was given a chessboard-like layout and at the same time its baroque character. As before, the new town hall should be at the center of the market square. Today the free-standing building is one of the most important examples of baroque half-timbered architecture. The special feature of this two-story half-timbered building is the arcade, which extends across the entire front and is supported by wooden supports. An open lantern tower crowns the middle of the hipped mansard roof and in the entrance area of the town hall the arcade was brought forward. The colonnades with the old city scales on the ceiling beams still remind of the former market activity.
As part of the general urban renewal, the town hall was extensively renovated from 1993 to 1996 and restored in its original form from 1711. The strong red of the facade also corresponds to the design at that time.

The Boizenburg town hall was built on the market square in 1708.
Just a year later it fell victim to a city fire.
In 1711 the town hall was rebuilt as a baroque half-timbered house.
It is located in the town center of Boizenburg/Elbe, directly on the market square in the immediate vicinity of the town church of St. Marien.
On August 9, 1938, the baroque town hall was hit by fire. The roof structure fire was quickly extinguished thanks to the fire department's new turntable ladder. However, although there was no damage, it was repaired promptly.
The danger of flooding was always ever-present. The town hall repeatedly fell victim to the Elbe floods.
In addition to the mayor's offices, the town hall also houses the city's registry office. In recent years, the town hall's premises have also been made available for cultural events and art exhibitions.
The free-standing town hall on the market square is one of the most important examples of baroque half-timbered architecture of its time. The tower crown is a gilded weather vane with a castle and a unicorn.
Even today, the town hall, with a length of 18.5 meters and a total height of around 22 meters, is the representative center of Boizenburg's old town.
