The monument was unveiled before the 30th anniversary of the end of World War II, on May 8, 1975. It was created by Stanisław Kulon.

The monument consists of three parts:
- the main monument symbolizing the explosion of a mine (six seventeen-meter pylons arranged in a circle) and the figure of a sapper defusing a mine,
- a slab placed in the underpass under Wisłostrada (on the eastern side), presenting various types of cooperation between insurgents and soldiers of the Polish Army in Czerniaków in September 1944,
- a reinforced concrete pillar driven into the bottom of the river, at the entrance to the Czerniaków Port. The pillar features figures of three soldiers driving a stake (in 2019 this part of the monument was renovated).
