In the 13th century, a group of Hieronymite monks chose the site of Bellaescusa to found a community of retreat and meditation with prodigious views of the valley of the Tajuña River. Within a century, the convent prospered and some of the hermits left for other places, leaving a sacred atmosphere that has endured over time.
