The only natural hill for miles around. Beautiful beer garden on the way to the Bonifacius settlement.

The 80-meter-high Mechtenberg in the city triangle of Gelsenkirchen, Essen & Bochum is one of the few. From 1900, a Bismarck column, originally framed by a small green space, crowned its summit formed from glacial Ruhr gravel. Landscapes in Mechtenberg are also typical of the Emscher area, where agricultural and industrial landscapes are located close to each other, preserving the agricultural area and developing a recreational area close to settlements was the aim of the project, which was initiated by the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR) at the beginning of the 1990s. Today the park offers in every season with its fields, orchards, avenues and groves a naturally changing color and shape play, whether rape blossom in April, fruit blossom in May, earshot in June, again and again show new aspects. A real mountain in the area. With a monument from bygone times on its summit. Climbing the mountain is rewarded with a beautiful view. Could be a little cleaner upstairs ...
