Gravel riding

The Herzogsberge nature reserve is a fascinating example of how a former military site can become a valuable refuge for nature. It is located southeast of Braunschweig in the Wolfenbüttel district (between Cremlingen and Sickte). Between 1934 and 2003, the area was used as a military training ground. Precisely because it was closed to the public during this time and not intensively used for agriculture, rare species were able to survive.
