    History of Alhama:
It is the valley of the Andarax Valley. It was also called Alhama la Seca (Alhama the Dry) or de Salmerón.
For a long time it was believed that its origins were in the Muslim period. However, the recently discovered Roman remains and the waterworks culture, which show the typical characteristics that they developed, point to a Roman origin from the first centuries of our era.
The traces of the Al-Andalus period are easily recognizable: the layout of the roads, the Arab baths, the remains of a fortress, ... After the conquest carried out by the Catholic Monarchs, the Taha de Marchena became the property of Don Gutierre de Cárdenas, a member of the family of King Don Fernando.
When the Moors were expelled in 1570, the town was completely abandoned and became a constant target for plunder by the Moors hiding in the mountains. The repopulation, which began in 1573, was very difficult because it was a dangerous area with a lack of water. The wells dried up with the earthquake of 1522.

In the last quarter of the 19th century, Alhama would experience a significant economic boom. On the one hand, mining in the tunnels and, on the other, the agricultural development of the grape-growing areas of Ohanes. This economic development would bring with it the bourgeoisie, which would give impetus to the construction of thermal baths.
