After a 78-kilometer journey from the Ostallgäu region near Obergünzburg, the Mindel flows into the Danube here from the right. The Mindel valley has been intensively using water power since the Middle Ages. Today, electrical energy is generated in thirty hydropower plants in the Günzburg district alone.

The run-of-river power plant on the Danube, shortly before the mouth of the Mindel, built from 1963 to 1964, operates with two Kaplan turbines coupled to generators with an output of 3675 kilowatts each. It belongs to Obere Donau Kraftwerke AG and is operated by Bayerische Elektrizitätswerke GmbH.
