The historic "jewel" of Osnabrück - narrow lanes, buildings from the respective eras and the many small boutiques and restaurants invite you to linger.

The historical heart of course is the town hall of the Westphalian Peace, in which u.a. the 30-year war ended. This is where the Peace Route begins, a thematic bike path dedicated to this genre.

    Osnabrück is a peace city.
Which city, in Germany - next to Münster, can say that ?!
City of the Westphalian Peace, because of the here and in Münster negotiated conditions that led to the end of the 30 Years War.
Osnabrück's old town and the Heger Torviertel have - quite rightly their own homepage - marketing strategically Here you will find all the important information about buildings, shopping and restaurants. And of course the event calendar because in this gem of the city is always a lot going on. Guxtu here: altstadt-osnabrueck.de
Particularly noteworthy is the beautiful historic Christmas market in front of the cathedral, the 2018 from 26.11. - 22.12. takes place and also has its own page on the web: osnabrueck.de/weihnachtsmarkt/start.html
By the way, Osnabrück may boast of owning one of the largest owner-managed bookstores in Lower Saxony, the bookstore Wenner in Grosse Strasse 69 - where you can find out more. Many great guides and bike guides find - but above all, a very nice atmosphere. Even if the homepage looks "oldbaksch".
In the year 2018, such an owner-managed product range is unfortunately no longer taken for granted, considering the digital transformation, which particularly affects the book trade:
In the old town, more precisely in the Bierstrasse 37 (sympathetic Address - somehow palatable, eh ?!) is the charming "Old Town Bücherstube" with her old, dignified means and the special flair tastefully selected books.
    Also very traditional house:
And because she has just been freshly honored, as one of the bookstores of the Republic
Of course it must be highlighted here, the bookstore to the heath - strategically located between the two already mentioned ...
In addition, Osnabrück is the city of the author Erich Maria Remarque (nothing new in the West)
And Osnabrück Cathedral is also a real highlight for me in terms of building and church history:
More about the peace route that "Andreas Kronier" certainly recommends:

I'm not a bookworm, so I do not know whether Osnabrück has to boast of its bookstores. But what I do know is that every year in May Osnabrück organizes two great weeks, called May Week, with an excellent program (free live music on several stages (professional or amateur)), stalls with regional and national food and drinks and much more.
Just as wonderful is the annual Christmas market.
And outside these events, Osnabrück is always worth a visit.
Bicycling in the Osnabrücker Land around Osnabrück is not quite as easy due to the hilly Teutoburger Wald, but still good to create.

The Christmas market in Osnabrück is really beautiful! 🌲🌲 And yes, Osnabrück still has beautiful owner-managed bookstores like Wenner, which should be supported. 👍
