At the upper end of the pedestrian zone (at the Café Central) there is now a plaque pointing to the upper gate tower. Its foundations are highlighted in the color of the pavement of the pedestrian zone. The Upper Gate was the entrance to the city from the east. It was demolished in 1842 and housed the local prison in the 17th and 18th centuries.
