Styrum Castle has been around for almost a millennium. First mentioned in documents in 1067, the historic walls have a long history. From the beginning to the present day, it has been renovated and refurbished countless times until it went from being a "castle house" to what it is today: a castle.
Last renovated in 2014, the historic walls now exude a fairytale and very unique charm. The highly modernized rooms have space for around 100 guests - weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, company events and more are provided with the perfect setting here.

🏰On the ground floor of the castle, private parties are catered for by the renowned Frank Schwarz Gastro Group GmbH.
Weddings are celebrated here, which can be held, for example, in the adjacent castle park in the Aquarius Water Museum - a landmark of the city of Mühlheim.
Other rooms in the castle house artists' studios and a day care center for the elderly🏰.
Freely accessible castle park is a chic, dreamy gem🫶🏼.

Styrum Castle – Historic Castle and Cultural Center in Mülheim an der Ruhr

Styrum Castle is an important historical building in the north of Mülheim an der Ruhr, nestled in a picturesque setting along the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path. The first documented mention of the castle dates back to 1067. For centuries, it was the ancestral seat of the Counts of Limburg-Styrum and thus an important part of regional history.

In the 19th century, the industrialist August Thyssen acquired the property to use as a residence for the directors of his waterworks. Under his aegis, the castle was fundamentally rebuilt and modernized, giving it its present appearance. After the Second World War, the castle was donated to the city of Mülheim and was extensively renovated as part of the 1992 State Garden Show.

Today, Styrum Castle is a vibrant cultural center. The ground floor houses prestigious event rooms used for weddings, corporate events, and exhibitions. On the upper floor, the castle houses six publicly funded artist studios, where creative artists work in the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, and film. Exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events are held here regularly, offering insights into the local art scene.

The adjacent castle park, with its idyllic water lily pond, invites you to take relaxing strolls and unwind. The park also offers a beautiful setting for outdoor weddings. Just a few minutes' walk away is the Aquarius Water Museum, another highlight in the immediate vicinity.

Styrum Castle is easily accessible: It is located directly on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path, one of Germany's most popular cycling routes, and is also well connected by bus (line 130, stop "Schloss Styrum"). For those arriving by car, there are parking spaces directly at the castle and on nearby Burgstrasse.

Whether you want to experience the historic architecture, discover the art scene, or simply enjoy the tranquil nature – Styrum Castle offers a worthwhile destination with a variety of options in every season.
