At this location, the memory of the plane crash on 28 May 1944 is kept alive by an information panel.Historical interpretation:
After returning from a military operation during WWII in Leopoldsburg, the British bomber Halifax was fired upon by the German night fighter at the North Sea. The aircraft then flew back inland. On Whit Monday 28 May 1944, the bomber crashed in this meadow. It happened around 2:30 at night. Two crew members, gunners sergeant Eburne and Lethbridge did not survive the impact. The other five were able to save themselves by leaving the burning aircraft with parachutes. Some local residents saw a large fireball come down, as it were. There was a huge bang followed by a lot of clatter from the exploded machine gun ammunition. The aircraft exploded. The wheels were on the other side, some oxygen bottles ended up in the Roosendaalse Vaart two hundred meters from here.Years later, it was still a matter of watching out for the small remains of the debris. This had consequences for the cattle of the local farmer.
