This flood lock was built in the years 1885-1886. In case of threat of war, Sabina-Henricapolder could be flooded from the Oude Heijningse harbour. A very efficient way to slow down or stop the enemy. After the Flood Disaster of 1953, the harbour was closed off by a dike and the flood lock lost its military function.
