The church was rebuilt in 1707. Old parts of the predecessor were included. In a reused stone above the west facade is the year 1682. In front of the Altarstipes is the tombstone for Anna von Nesselrot from 1581 (Wikipedia).

Alexander Wilhelm Gottschalg (1827-1908) served as cantor here for a time. He also served as court organist in Weimar in 1870.

The organ dates from 1834 and was built by the Witzmann brothers from Stadtilm. Wilhelm Alexander Gottschalg, a friend of Franz Liszt and court organist in Weimar, once played it.
The small bronze bell dates from 1852 and was cast in Apolda.
