A monastery mill has existed in Breitenau since at least the 16th century. Around 1910, the mill ditch had three covered channels, each with an undershot mill wheel, two of which were still in operation. The last part of the former mill complex is the half-timbered building behind the mighty archway. The cycle and footpath leads along here in the direction of Ellenberg. The new grain mill was built between 1914 and 1916 and from then on operated with electricity from a turbine (later an electric plant). Source: Günter Döring - The monastery mill (water mill) in Breitenau on the Fulda from 1872 to 2020.
