The Niederzwehren Cemetery in the Kassel district of Niederzwehren is a military cemetery built and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). Originally part of the Niederzwehren POW camp from the First World War, it was expanded and redesigned in the 1920s. Another cemetery for Russian soldiers is in the immediate vicinity.

The cemetery was started by the Germans in 1915 for the burial of prisoners of war who died in the local camp. Almost 3,000 Allied soldiers and civilians, including French, Russian and Commonwealth, were buried there during the war.
In 1922/23 it was decided to group the graves of Commonwealth soldiers who had died throughout Germany in four permanent cemeteries. Niederzwehren was chosen and over the next four years more than 1,500 graves from 190 burial sites in Baden, Bavaria, Hanover, Hesse and Saxony were brought to the cemetery.
There are now 1,796 World War I soldiers buried or memorialized on the Commonwealth property at Niederzwehren. This includes special memorials for 13 victims buried in other cemeteries in Germany whose graves could not be found.
