Badia Pozzeveri is a hamlet in the Italian comune of Altopascio, in the province of Lucca, Tuscany. The hamlet grew up around the Camaldolese Abbey of San Pietro, which for centuries was a stopover for pilgrims travelling the Via Francigena between Lucca and Altopascio.

Cycling

Altopascio has been inhabited since Roman times and gained importance in the Middle Ages due to its Spedale (inn, first mentioned in 1084) for pilgrims travelling on the Via Francigena, which led from France to Rome. This formed the basis of the later Order of St. James of Altopascio.
Altopascio is also known as the “city of bread” due to its centuries-old tradition of cereal cultivation.
