The Quay was formed in the years 1630-1631, after the harbour had been moved from the Oostdam to its current location. The name is derived from the revetment and water barrier. The Steenbergse Haven or Kaai, is the name of the city and marina of Steenbergen.

The oldest part of the harbour dates from the 14th century. The excavated course to the Vliet is younger and is a former part of the fortifications of Steenbergen. The former Fort Henricus at the mouth of the harbour belonged to the same fortifications. Before the reclamation of the Graaf Hendrikpolder, the area around Fort Henricus was a mudflat and gorzen area. The harbour canal to the current harbour is the same as to the old harbour and was closed in 1538 by the reclamation of the aforementioned polder and reopened in 1580.

Until the 1970s, the harbour was heavily used by cargo ships that brought sugar beets to the sugar factory located in Steenbergen. In the middle part of the harbour are so-called water houses. These are houses with their own or shared jetty on the waterfront.

Behind this is the marina, which consists of approximately 160 berths. Behind that is the old city harbour with around thirty berths. This part of the harbour runs to the Kaaistraat, almost in the centre of Steenbergen.

A short rest, then into town. A pleasant shopping street.
