The "Water Town Povel" is a newly created district on the former premises of the textile factory Ludwig Povel & Co., which went bankrupt in 1979, in the center of Nordhorn. The new, densely populated district, which is around 18 hectares in size and is also affectionately known as "Little Venice", includes city residential and commercial buildings, serviced residential complexes, a city museum (Povel Tower), a cultural center, a park and a viewing hill (pyramid) with a wonderful view over Nordhorn and the Vechtesee.Newly created waterways that branch off from the Vechte river flowing past and from the Nordhorn-Almelo canal give the "Water Town Povel" a high recognition value and are used daily for numerous boat trips. This gives you the opportunity to discover the charming water town from the "duck perspective".The popular pedestrian zone with numerous shops for shopping and a wide variety of restaurants is just a few steps away.
