In the valley of the Saidenbach, which rises on the Saidenberg near Obersaida, the Saidenbach Dam was built between 1928 and 1933. It can store 22.4 million cubic meters of water and supplies the city of Chemnitz with drinking water. A 334 m long and 48 m high dam holds back the water from the Saidenbach, Haselbach and Lippersdorfer Bach. There were several mills in the valley, such as the Pulvermühle and the Hölzelmühle, which had to make way for the dam.

A nature trail, which was created by nature conservationists below the dam, provides an introduction to the flora and fauna of the area. Beech forests, which in spring have a rich ground flora of early bloomers, line the path. Later, shade-tolerant plants such as wood sorrel and shadflower cover the forest floor.

First mentioned in documents in 1299, Forchheim is a forest-strip village whose most important source of income for centuries was agriculture....

The Saidenbach drinking water dam was built between 1929 and 1933 northeast of Pockau-Lengefeld. It dams a total of six tributaries: the Forchheimer Dorfbach, Gründelbach, Haselbach, Hölzelbergbach, Lippersdorfer Bach and Saidenbach. With over 146 hectares of water surface (22.4 million m³ of water), the dam is the largest reservoir in the central Ore Mountains and at the same time the largest drinking water reservoir in the "Central Ore Mountains" network system. Together with the Einsiedel, Neunzehnhain 1 and Neunzehnhain 2 dams, it provides raw water for the Einsiedel waterworks, which supplies Chemnitz and southern Saxony with drinking water.

....The most important architectural monument in the town is the church, built in 1719 by George Bähr (the architect of the Dresden Frauenkirche), including its Silbermann organ. The Forchheim "castle" is the manor house of a former knight's estate.

From the heights above Forchheim you have a beautiful view of the water surface of the large dam. After the dam was built, spruce trees were planted on the former agricultural land around the water body, just like at all drinking water reservoirs in the Ore Mountains, in order to minimize the entry of contamination. A little further away from the reservoir, however, in the catchment area of the Saidenbach dam, alder reforestation was also created, some of which today have a very natural character.
