The “wild garlic paradise of Vilbel Forest” stretches from the Totenwiese, near the Ritterweiher, to the eastern edge of the city forest. It is one of the largest occurrences in southern Hesse.Wild garlic, like its relatives chives, onions and garlic, is also edible. It can be used to refine salads, pesto or herb curd, for example. And it prevents a number of heart and circulatory diseases. This plant is easy to find from March to mid-May with its striking leaves, white flowers and strong smell. In this area, the entire forest floor then becomes a sea of white. However, you should be careful when collecting wild garlic - it grows between poisonous plants such as arum, autumn crocus and lily of the valley.
