In 1088, a church was first mentioned, the patronage of which was in the hands of the Saint Peter's Chapter in Rijsel. In 1581, the church was destroyed by the Calvinists, after which it was restored. In 1765, the church was enlarged by extending the church to the east and building a new choir.

In 1847, the church was demolished, except for a few wall sections, and replaced by a new church building in neo-Gothic style. In 1856, this new church, designed as a hall church, was completed. During the First World War, especially 1916-1917, the church was used by the Germans as a field hospital, later as a barracks. During the German retreat in 1918, the church was partially destroyed, including the tower. In 1923, the church was rebuilt according to the original model under the architecture of Alfons De Pauw.

Around the church is a procession with the Seven Sorrows.
During my passage I was lucky that the parish choir was just rehearsing and I could also take a look inside:
The nave rests on two rows of seven columns. Against each of those columns a polychrome statue of a saint.
In the front, among other things, a painting "The Calvary" by Pieter Claeys (1608)
In the back, near the baptismal chapel, an 18th-century bust of Saint Blaise of Sebaste.
      Colorful stained glass windows.
