Kleinhohenheim is located almost at the highest point of the Stuttgart district Birkach. From here you can see the Swabian Alb with the castle ruins Hohenneuffen in good visibility.

History shows that Kleinhohenheim has been used for agriculture since 1772 (established by Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg). From 1817 it was considered the "Royal Württemberg Domain" for the exemplary keeping of foals and cattle (Appenzeller cattle). The remains of the foundations of today's sheepfold building, which was originally built as a Swiss house, also date from this period. In 1864 the domain was converted into a leasehold property, which was then leased in 1922 for what was then the Hohenheim Agricultural University. In 1976, the domain in its current size became the property of the state of Baden-Württemberg, which assigned the area of the University of Hohenheim to the Experimental Station I for management. Since 1994 the area has been cultivated according to ecological guidelines.
