The Fortino di Sant’Antonio is one of the most characteristic elements of the wall surrounding Bari Vecchia; it is located in one of the highest points of these walls and its history dates back to 1071 when, to prevent attacks on the old port, a watchtower was built. The tower is dedicated to Sant’Antonio by virtue of the discovery of some elements attributable to a previously existing church nearby and dedicated to the saint.
