The old church is a typical medieval church building, built around 1200 in Romanesque style. For the time, the church is quite large with the nave, the choir and the sacristy. In the southeast corner of the choir is a unique stone with a carved lion ornament. The old church is a popular wedding venue. To view the interior, you can get the two huge keys from the adjacent building - it's worth it.
Text from the information board: Powerful knights and contacts with bishops and the town of Växjö shaped the history of Vederslöv. These contributed to the church being built and decorated inside and out with paintings and sculptures. In the triumphal arch between the nave and the choir there is a painting showing the bishop with a model of the church in his hand. This suggests that the bishop donated the medieval paintings. Perhaps he was also the founder of the church. Two of the finely hewn granite corner stones are decorated, one with a cross, the other with a lion.
Around 1600 the church was decorated with painted Renaissance architectural motifs; these can be seen around the door to the sacristy, among other places. In 1682 Gudmund Rosenlund painted the church with flowers and leaves in the Baroque style. The initials of the parishioners who financed this work were painted over each motif. Around 1770, the church was repainted again, this time the parish decided on light blue curtain paintings around the windows and altar. When the new church was built in 1880, the old church was left empty. Between 1930 and 1967, the old church was gradually restored.
